The horticultural practice of grafting inserts a cutting from one plant into the stem or root of another, compelling them to grow together as a single organism. Deriving from the Greek -graphein, it is also the process of making marks on a surface. grafted-on brings together large-scale drawings and installations formed by flows of distant rivers, forests, deserts and oceans, in an inner-city London garden. Transplanting traces of elemental and industrial forces through graphite, ink and steel, the exhibition explores the entanglements and conflicts that shape planetary processes, ecological systems and human-more-than-human relations.
